The stained glass that sparked the use of glass (though indirectly and obliquely) is a particular grouping I saw from New Creations Stained Glass Studio called “Shatterglass.” It’s not actually broken, but it captures a moment in time, a moment of frustration and anger, in which it appears an object has been thrown to shatter the glass. Goya, Picasso, Thomas Moran, Anselm Kiefer, so many others—all directed their anger and anguish into masterpieces. Anger can fuel art as well as destroy it and therapists who specialize in trauma patients often use art therapy as an expressive medium. Many people, especially those suffering from PTSD, patients who are rape survivors, and so on, find it difficult to express themselves verbally.
